Media Release 29 November 2017
Release Date: Immediately
The location device and service provider Yepzon will open its programming interface to encourage private persons and companies around the world to further develop Yepzon’s devices as part of new kinds of location solutions. One of the first to utilize the interface is the Finnish technology company Valmet with its new logistics service.
Opening the interface is made possible by the fact that Yepzon owns its entire ecosystem, including devices, servers, and mobile applications. In accordance with the open source code model, anyone can further develop a technology or combine it with their own service.
“We have always seen the continuous development of our products as important, which is why we made the Yepzon ecosystem easily integratable from the very beginning. Our goal is to create a worldwide developer network comprising companies and private persons to come up with new ideas on how to use our locators,” explains Otto Linna, the founder of Yepzon.
Valmet’s new service monitors containers in real time
A leading global provider of technologies, automation, and services for the chemical pulp, paper, and energy industries, Valmet has already embraced the potential offered by the open programming interface. Using Yepzon’s industrial devices as a basis, Valmet has developed a logistics management service for its customers. The service enables containers transported on roads to be monitored using a Yepzon locator and the Integrated Operations product, which is integrated into Valmet’s own Valmet DNA automation system. The service provides an alternative to the RFID scanners and identifiers traditionally used for locating containers.
“RFID identifiers only show if a container has reached its destination. The GPS monitoring made possible by Yepzon enables us to know the container’s precise location at all times. Each GPS locator includes an ID, which can be used to identify the container and to enter details required by the customer – such as the container capacity, maintenance periods, and pressure category – into Valmet’s database. The real-time locations of containers are imported into our interface as a map view. The forecasting capacity enabled by this brings enormous added value to a logistics designer,” says Esa Sairanen, Product Manager at Valmet Automation.
Valmet chose Yepzon as its partner because Yepzon offered an existing, easy-to-use interface and a clear policy.
“Yepzon’s interface gave us easy access to the required data. We could easily enable communication with a few commands. Normally, interface solutions have to rely heavily on device specialists. But Yepzon’s technology is clear and simple, which enables our programmers to utilize it independently,” explains Sairanen.
As we speak, the service is in the pilot stage; the first Valmet customer will get access to it in January–February 2018.
You can find Yepzon at the technology event Slush from November 30 to December 1, 2017.
